Joan Blackman is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who received her master’s degree in from the University of Chicago. She is also a supervisor approved by the Minnesota Board of Social Work. She completed her bachelor of arts degree at the University of Dallas where she majored in philosophy. Her experience with foster siblings led Joan to enter the mental health field, with a deep desire to support families. She has extensive experience serving parents of children with special needs and earned a certificate in adoption competency from the University of Minnesota.
Her clinical experience includes children, adolescents, and adults. She has clinical interest in Autism, ADHD and all aspects of neurodiversity. She believes it is a privilege to accompany parents and other caregivers striving to live out their love for others. Using trauma-informed perspective, incorporating motivational interviewing, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and attachment theory, she supports clients in finding hope, peace, and even joy within life’s challenges.
Joan and her family live in Hopkins, MN. She is mother to 6 absolutely wonderful adult children, although perhaps a bit biased in her opinion of them, and blessed grandmother to another 6. She spends much of her time with family, passing along her love of good books and the beauty of God’s creation.

We can provide a “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance for receiving out-of-network benefits; we cannot guarantee reimbursement from your insurance. To offer you privacy and simplicity, we accept HSA/FSA credit cards, accept all major credit cards, as well as cash or checks. Please check with your insurance provider to find out the portion of session fees they cover if you use out-of-network benefits.
Paying Privately
When not utilizing insurance benefits, sessions with Joan are $160 per hour. Making therapy affordable is a priority and if the full fee poses financial hardship, an income-suggested sliding fee scale is available. Please contact Joan for more information about this option. Payment may be made by cash, check or major credit card.
